Benefits of a Massage Therapy Certification

Depending on the state in which an individual lives in, they may or may not be required to pass a written and practical licensing exam before entering the field of massage therapy. While it is definitely possible for a future massage therapist to be able to pass one of these tests with no formal education in the subject, the chances are very slim because it can be very difficult to learn everything that is needed to know with no assistance or direction.

Taking classes at massage therapy schools can and will make all the difference in the a positive manner as a person is taught the theory and practice of massage and will take courses in professional ethics, public health, pathology, anatomy and hygiene. While some of these classes will benefit more than others, the end result is outstanding and will help someone understand the business and industry from front to back to ensure that they have the best possible chance of being successful through an employer or by self-employment.

With training generally lasting six to twelve months and totaling up to five hundred hours, there really is no reason that an individual should not take up this opportunity because they do not have to invest two, four, six or eight years of their life chasing an education to finally start making money. A person can take one single year, start massage therapy training in the beginning and by the end of the year already have a steady job or be pulling in consistent clients by being self-employed. An individual is only limited by himself, with about half of all massage therapists there is simply no reason that a person cannot make all of the necessary steps forward to run a complete business and live from it.

Being self-employed is just like having a job except with a few more steps that have an emphasis on communication and thinking business. For instance, while there may be some decent business in construction workers that want some periodic relief from their physically demanding work, the chances of them being regulars without bringing in a lot of income is somewhat slim. On the other hand, a wealthy individual or someone who is into professional sports have a much better chance of being consistent and paying greatly for the services being provided as it is not a huge bank breaker to them. Overall, while having certification is not absolutely necessary to succeed as a massage therapist, taking the time to get certified will equip someone with everything they need to know to be great and successful.
