Brief History of Digital Photography

In the late 60s and early 70s, two men were on a journey of invention and their goals were clear and their objectives had been set out. However, among their top goals was to create a semiconductor for computers of that time. Also, they wanted to try a hand into solid-state video cameras. George Smith and Willard Boyle are credited to changing the face of photography. Dedication and hard work at the Bell labs was able to birth something that took off the ground running creating excellence and making history in the field of photography. Smith and Boyle were able to invent the CCD which is charge-coupled device which was to form the heart of digital cameras as well as other gadgets.

The CCD was able to transform the camera and the possibilities were endless. It was in 1970 when ground was broken and the 5 years that passed were able to provide a chance for the experts to work on their creation to perfect it and launch it to the world. This effort did not go unnoticed and it sent all companies that dealt with this sector to go to work and produce a product that was befitting the invention by Smith and Boyle. The years that passed saw a lot of work and effort put into perfecting the camera whose enormous digital capabilities were beckoning.

In 1981, the Sony Corporation paved the way as it produced its first ever digital camera which was one of a kind in the world. This model was a prototype that held great promise and set the foundation. Through the CCD by Smith and Boyle the prototype was build powered by 2 CCD chips that were able to ensure different things. First, the images could be formatted in a disk and this could be done with utmost ease plus, a chip could hold up to 25 images. As Sony led the way, Kodak and Logitech followed as they came up with ground breaking digital cameras for consumers. The history continues as dynamic products and features are birthed each day.
