Buying a Drafting Chairs – Tips, Options and Prices

There are a number of different styles, models and brand names of drafting chairs.  Some are made with fabric, others with faux leather, and others with genuine leather.  Some have arms and others do not.  Some are ergonomic, which can be a good option if you have regular back and neck pains and need something particularly comfortable for long hours of desk work.

Drafting Table and Chair

The most important thing to consider when it comes to choosing the right chair is comfort.  While of course most people want an elegant chair that will match well with their office decor, and there is nothing wrong with this, having an uncomfortable chair will aggravate neck pain and backaches.  Make sure that the chair you buy is one in which you can sit comfortably for hours at a time.

While the prices vary a lot, you can get a drafting chair for under $100.  The Boss Contoured Comfort Drafting Chair comes in burgundy, blue, gray and black, has a contoured back that is comfortable for those doing a lot of desk work, and it costs $77 at Overstock.com. KFI Seating offers one that is even more affordable at $55; the back is not contoured but this chair, unlike the previously mentioned option, has arm rests.

If you want a leather drafting chair, then you will need to be prepared to spend a bit more money.  If you are looking for an affordable chair of this nature, then your best bet may be the Boss International Deluxe Posture - Leatherplus Office Drafting Chair that is currently selling for $110.  The price goes up from there and you can pay over $300 for a higher end brand name.

While buying one of these chairs online is easier and more convenient in many ways than buying one at a regular store, there are a few disadvantages to online shopping.  It is harder to choose the right chair by just looking at a picture; when you go to an office supply store, you can see the chair close up and get a better idea of whether it is the right buy for you.  You also do not have to worry about the shipping costs; while some online retailers ship your purchase to you free of charge, others only do so if you live in a particular area while others do not offer free shipping at all, and it is always more inconvenient to return something purchased online than it is to return an item purchased at a regular store or supermarket.
