Desserts are one of the most wonderful places for site seeing. One of the best ways to adore the great wonder of nature is by "camping in a desert". It's not only a night that you are going to see the first time in your life; it's the start of the day, the morning, the afternoon and the evening. It all is going to knock you out of your feet and you will be wondering why this has not yet been included in the wonders of the world.
Camping in desert require special techniques and equipment. First of all you need to select a list of items which you are going to need for camping in a desert. List must be made keeping in view the demography and the atmospheric conditions of the area you intend camping. Deserts can be real unpredictable, so there is nothing bad to equip yourself with more then what actually you might be planning to carry with you. It may be a long list. Some of the important things which are the basic assense of camping in desert are discussed below.
Water for drinking and cooking is the most important requirement of camping in desert. It is imperative to state here that a normal human can survive three days without water depending upon the weather conditions. One of the best methods of carrying water is in bukhals as used by most of the locals in Arab deserts. These bukhals are tied at front bumpers of cars or on the camels (commonly known as the desert planes). The water not only remains safe but it also remains partially cold. Never forget to have water purification tablets in case you have to use water from a local source.
Now a days, there are lots of companies available which are offering specialized camps for cold as well as warm places. These are portable camps which can accompany 1 person to 50 persons. For deserts you need to select a camp which keeps you safe from sand storms and the scratching heat of day. They should be light weight, easy to carry and easy to place. Sleeping bags are readily available; however, if you want to avoid insects take an air mattress along with a camp cord and camp chairs.
You should be absolutely clear what you intend taking along. Your dressing, shoes, lighting arrangements, woods for cooking and born fire, dry or tinned food, axe, ropes, sun screen and insect repellents are all equally important. You should be well equipped it's preferable to have a local with you. If this you're first time in desert, never rely on your instincts but off coarse if you want to enjoy alone, with friends or family, then GPS is a must. In case of any eventuality you must have a map, compass and need to be proficient in map reading.
The temperatures in deserts may vary from well above 50 C in the day to below 0 C at night. You see a dune 50 feet today, next day when you gets up it would be plain straight ground. The sky at night would be most beautiful, you never would have seen so many stars and light in the sky before.
If you are well prepared and equipped to take on the challenges of a desert, Desert Camping will be one of the best memories of your life. Make sure you have a camping lantern, because even desserts can be cold.
