As the size of mattress becomes standardized, many of you do not actually measure the mattress size before buying a bed sheet. Normally, the width and length of mattresses do not differ significantly from standard sizes; the thickness may vary a lot. Sometimes, a queen size bed sheet may not fit a thick queen size mattress. Therefore, it is wiser to measure the exact size of the mattress and compare it to the exact size of the bed sheet.

Having the right mattress size alone does not allow you to have a comfortable bed sheet; you also need to know a term called thread count. Actually, it is not common for people to pay attention the thread count when buying bed sheet. Thread count is the number of threads per square inch, which actually tells you how soft and comfortable the bed sheet is. The higher the thread count, the more comfortable it is. While common thread count ranges from 180 to 300, bed sheet with 200 thread count or is considered to be high quality and comfortable.

Cotton is the most popular material for bed sheet. As you may know, cotton is the most common material for bed sheet. Cotton is comfortable and the price is affordable compared to other luxurious materials. When choosing cotton bed sheet, you may need to pay attention finding out if it is pure cotton or blended. Pure cotton means 100% cotton and blended means other materials like polyester is blended with cotton. Between the two, pure cotton is more comfortable and breathable but is more expensive and easily wrinkled.

If you can afford higher price, you may choose other materials like silk, flannel and satin instead of the ordinary cotton. Bed sheet made of silk is extremely smooth, soft and light. It is considered as the ultimate luxury of bed sheet. Though you will love the texture of silk in summer, you certainly prefer flannel for winter time. Flannel is made from wool and cotton and therefore, it keeps you warm during winter time. Satin is a special weave on silk, polyester or nylon. The texture and feeling is very similar to silk but is even smoother. The drawback of satin bed sheet is the lower durability.

Before you actually buy a bed sheet, remember to compare the price online. This is important as prices of bed sheets vary a lot depending on materials, designs, brands and manufacturers. Just by a search, you may have your money saved.
