Comparison of Different Slipper Tub Material

Bath tubs have always been a desirable fixture to have in one’s bathroom. A bath tub, simple as it is, is a good place to rest and relax. That is why slipper-type bathtubs are preferred by many. A slipper tub has a high backrest on at least one side of the tub to lean against rendering it perfect for soaking.

There are a several styles or designs of slipper tubs one can choose from. From the sleek contemporary Jacuzzi to vintage tubs, the choice of a bathroom fixture design can either make or break the overall impression of the home or bathroom. So the style preference depends entirely on the interior design. Aside from design, the kind of material composition that the tub is made is also an important factor to think about. The slipper bathtub composition can either boost or ruin the whole bathing experience.

Let’s take a peek of the different slipper tub composition and see each of its pros and cons.

POS or “Porcelain on Steel”. POS is the most popular slipper tub material as it is lightweight and budget-friendly. The material also has fairly acceptable qualities like it is resistant to abrasion, acid, and corrosion. But porcelain is easily cracked or chipped and once it does, the exposed metal can rust easily. The rust stains can smear the tub surfaces destroying its aesthetic qualities.

Acrylic. The glossy texture of acrylic tubs makes the bathtub look sleek. It is also a popular material used for slipper tubs. Because acrylic is a light material, the overall weight of the filled tub especially is compensated. But, it is not resistant to chemical corrosion and may wear in less than due time. There are products available in the market, though, which can turn back the luster of acrylic.

Cast Iron (Enamelled). Slipper tubs made of this material would definitely look elegantly antiquated. But more than the looks, cast iron which is enamelled is very durable and can last a lifetime since it the material is highly resistant to scratching and chipping. Cast iron materials belong to the high-end class and these are more expensive.
