Different Type of Tents for Solo Campers

Solo campers are going to have different concerns than those who are camping with their families or lots of people.  They won’t have anyone besides themselves to worry about safety, setting up camp or pitching the tent.

The biggest concern for most campers is where they are going to sleep.  This isn’t any different for campers opting to do it all by themselves.  Most decide to to use a tent to sleep in since it can provide protection from bugs and any weather elements like rain or wind.

Once you decide that you want to use a tent there are plenty of things to consider like how big of a tent you want, how much it should weigh, how durable  it is and what its design is.

The size includes not only how big it is and how many could technically sleep in it but it also includes its overall weight.  Many backpackers will choose a very lightweight tent that will add little overall weight to their bag, obviously the lighter the better.  If you are hiking into your campsite you don't want to worry about any unnecessary weight.   Fortunately, there are numerous options under 3 pounds.  While you can choose a tent that is specifically a 1 man tent you may want to opt for one a little bigger so you have a little more room to sit up or move around in.  However, you might not care if you have that much room.

Bivy tents and bike tents are two of the options of style of tents designed for one person.  Bivys are very small and give no space whatsoever to move around in.  It is very much like a giant sleeping bag.  Its not a great choice if you are claustrophobic as it provides very little space.   A bike tent often will use the front wheel of a bike as the main support of a tent.  This eliminates the need for tent poles and cuts down on the overall weight of the tent.  Keep in mind that if you choose this type of tent you won’t be able to have easy access to your bike.  You will have attach your will again and take down the tent before you can use it again.
