Dress for Success and Do It on the Cheap

Dress for success.  Dress up.  Dress down.  Turkey and dressing.  No wait.   How about cheap dresses?  Who doesn't love dresses and who doesn't love cheap?  That is when cheap comes before dresses.  Well too much rambling.  Let's get down to business.  Let's go cheap dress hunting.

All of my cheap dress hunting is strictly from personal experience.  I will offer my not so expert advice and maybe you can run across your cheap dress.  Cheap dresses certainly leave a bad taste in your mouth, but whether we like the word cheap or not it really has little to do with the quality of the garment.  Cheap is referring to price only.

Here's my first tip for locating cheap dresses.  Check with your local Goodwill or Salvation Army.  I know some of you may be too high and mighty to buy your cheap dresses at these places, but believe me these stores have some nice stuff if you're willing to put the time in.  Find out when the stores get new shipments in.

Often it's in the middle of the week, but times vary.  Make a list.  Maybe you are looking for a strapless cheap dress,  a cheap little black dress, or a cheap silk dress.    Don't be afraid to bargain.  "Are you crazy?"  Yes I am, but still don't be afraid to ask for the bottom dollar price. Ever been to a yard sale and asked if the seller would take a little less?  Of course you have and so have I.  So don't be afraid to ask at GW and SA.

Speaking of yard  sales,  you'll find cheap dresses galore.  Some of those cheap dresses are actually CHEAP DRESSES, so be discriminating.  Just because a dress is a quarter doesn't mean it's a great buy.  No one wants to overpay for a cheap dress.  Seriously, if you know someone who is your size, dresses stylishly, and is having a yard sale, then you've hit the jackpot.  Just be sure you're first in line, when the yard sale opens for business.

What about a clothing swap with friends, family, and co-workers?  Surely you're not too good for this!  My sister and I have a history of swapping clothes.  (I usually got the better end of this deal, since she rarely purchased cheap dresses).  It's a great way to expand your wardrobe without spending a penny.  Did I say cheap dresses?  I meant free dresses.  And who doesn't love free?

Consignment shops boast nice CHEAP dresses.  Sometimes they're cheap, sometimes not so cheap.  However, it is a good place to find nicer cheap dresses.  Will they bargain?  I don't know.  I've never tried to bargain in those places.  Sometimes I think consignment shops are a little snootier than they have a right to be.  Maybe I'm just shopping for cheap dresses at the wrong consignment shops.
