Earn money online by thinking small

Many people these days have thought about starting their own business however due to the low costs of starting up online many people see the internet as an easy way to earn a good living. One thing that your sure to notice if you do any research about an internet income is that there’s no end of get rich schemes and other money making scams out there that only seem to make the people selling them any money.

However is it possible for a complete newcomer to earn a full time income online? I think one of the key things about any website to aims to make money from people is to provide something unique. Now this could be anything from the product you are selling ie no-one else has it or if it is a widely used product you could offer more in-depth information on it than anyone else. The thing to keep in mind is that since it’s so easy to build a website about a topic, millions of people have done it and so you need something extra to stand out from the crowd.

There are many tips and tricks that the marketing professionals use all the time in the real world to get publicity but these techniques often work just as well in the online world too. Here are a few of my favourites.

• Start a competition whereby if other bloggers write about your site you offer a random prize to one of them.
• Contact your local paper to see if they want to do a write up on your website. Remember with most news agencies you need to offer them an angle to write about you so it doesn’t seem like a straight up hard sell.
• Create a useful widget that people will want to come to you to use. Ie could you create a calculator to work out mortgage payments?

As you can see there’s more to starting a website and making money from it than you would think but if you can do something special it might just work.
