Funky and Soft Pashmina Shag Rugs

Some of the best pashmina shag rugs are made in Nepal and India, others are made by artists and rug designers in small studios. One such American artist is Danielle David Grinnen, who draws modern designs but then gets Nepalese rug makers to create his funky masterpieces using soft Pashmina wool and hand knotting, to end up with contemporary high quality thick pile shag rugs. They cost about $1,400, but they are unique and high quality pieces that you won’t find in stores.

Affordable Pashmina Shag

A more affordable option to have funky pashmina shag rugs is to go to the factory direct outlets that deal with Indian and Nepalese rug makers. Almost all the best pashmina shag rugs seem to make a stop in Katmandu, so you may want to check the exporters that have an office there, especially if you are looking for wholesale items for reselling. If you are looking for just one rug for your home, then your choices are rather limited as to where you can shop online. You will probably do well to find the nearest Deboers distributor or department store that sells their products and choose from about 8 or so really great soft and funky colors that they offer. At present they are one of the few companies outside of Asia who deal with pashmina shag rugs. There is one online retailer called Floors and Surfaces that have a few pashmina shag rugs between $500 and $600 and really large ones for over $2000, and they’re from a collection by Rug Studio.

Rug Studio Pashmina Shag Rugs

Rug Studio has pashmina shag rugs in a variety of colors, lengths and textures and they’re made from wool and viscose and are in fact not genuine pashmina since they’re not made from Hymalayan goats gair but from New Zealand wool. They are made in India and finished in Canada.

Carrying for your Shag Rugs

They are more delicate than some other shag rugs, but the same basic care applies to genuine pashmina shag rugs and the ones made with regular wool and viscose. They should be vacuumed as you would any other carpet but just don’t use the rotating brushed because that might cause the yarn to loosen by being tugged at and come out or shed more. Pashmina shag rugs must be professionally cleaned, but you can do some spot cleaning with warm water and mild liquid cleaners. But if you don’t place the shag rugs in high traffic areas, kitchens, dinning rooms or other areas where stains may occur frequently, you shouldn’t need to do too much. In a bedroom, it’s enough to shake them, vacuum, and once a year take them to a rug cleaning specialist.
