Height Gain Niche Case Study-The Problem with Keyword Authority

Keyword Authority is a very important concept that helps alleviate some of the issues with exact matching domains. Keyword Authority enables sites with more content without a matching domain to outrank those with exact matching domains with thin content. My niche is the height gain niche so I'm going to talk about some of the issues that the keyword authority algorithm has in this niche.

Their aren't very many authority sites in the height increase niche(lots of thin exact matching domain sites though). A lot of them are forums so they get their keyword authority with shear volumes of content. Yahoo answers is considered an authority in this niche. Now contrast how a forum gains keyword authority versus how a site like Yahoo Answers gains authority. A forum gains keyword authority by different threads like how do I grow taller with hypnosis, how do I increase height with ankle weights, etc. Yahoo Answers gains keyword authority by questions asked like How do I grow taller?, Can I Increase height?, etc.

The forum has different threads discussing different methods. Yahoo Answers gets keyword authority by a bunch of synonymous phrases that mean the same thing. The former method provides value to the user whereas the latter method doesn't. Now their are sometimes subtle differences between words. In the fitness niche weightlifting, bodybuilding, powerlifting, and strongman mean very different things. Weight loss and fat loss are two different things even if the searchers usually both want the same thing. Their could be distinct personality differences between a searcher who types in money, cash, moola, bucks, etc. that leads to different content optimized for the user.

Their needs to be a way to discount pages that don't add value but are designed to game the keyword authority system and yet there has to be a way to allow for sites to have different sites based on synonyms. A blog owner could optimize one landing page more appealing to make money online seekers whereas optimize another landing page for earn cash online seekers. If the blog owner has carefully weighed the psychological differences between the two surfers.

Proposed solution: Manually remove the Keyword Authority of sites like Yahoo Answers unless the sites have good, quality, different answers for seemingly synonymous keywords.
