High Heel Shoes and Fashion

High heel shoes, or heels, have become a fashionable and simple way to dress up feet while bringing a longer, more toned look to legs. The shoes are simple footwear that raises the heel to be much higher than the toes. These are not to be mistaken for platform shoes, as they raise the heel and toe to the same level. However, there are platform shoes featuring a taller heel. In order to be considered a “high” heel, the back of the shoe must be taller than 3.5 inches. Fashion websites such as Gucci suggest that a heel between 2.5 and 3.5 inches is considered a mid heel, and anything below that is a low heel.

Cheap high heels are available in a variety of styles and shapes, including the ever-popular stiletto, block, wedge, tapered, or of course, the pump. They have come a long way throughout the past century, evolving to become a good choice of footwear almost entirely for aesthetic appeal. Defining calf muscles, altering posture, giving the appearance of elongated legs, making feet appear smaller, and toning the upper thighs are the main reasons that heeled shoes have been flying off of the shelves. And of course they are great as a means of seduction.

Accessories are an essential part of any woman’s wardrobe, and now they have them for shoes, too. Stiletto high heels can damage some types of floors. To prevent this, taps, guards, or covers were invented. They simply slide over the tip of the stiletto to keep it from coming in contact with any surfaces. Heel protectors are more commonly used when ballroom dancing, which is usually done on a wooden floor.

Many feminists are against heels, believing they turn a woman into an object of lust by trading her comfort for something that only makes her more appealing to the eye of a man. However most women choose to wear them because they want to, not because they feel they ought to. Even if it increases a woman’s appeal simply out of illusion, it has become a way for every woman all over the world to feel more attractive in her own skin.
