This feminine memento is one of the hottest trends in modern jewelry. They are typically steel, silver, gold or enamel and are similar to men’s cufflinks—only they attach to what is known as a “starter bracelet” or charm bracelet. Think of the starter bracelet as the foundation that Italian charms will be fastened to. Gold, gold-plated, silver, herringbone and gun metal are all common materials, and the slots available for charms go up to about 20.
Italian charms typically come in 7mm, 9mm, 13mm, and 16mm sizes—although 18 is not unheard of. The most common is the 13mm size, with a corresponding bracelet that holds 13mm pieces. Most are made from stainless steel and sterling silver and popular selections include Zoppini and Roussio. Here’s a very small sampling of the enormous variety of charms:
- Birthstone, Zodiac, graduation, religious and heart symbols are a few of the most popular charm links. Miniature photographs of your choosing are also available for printing on most charms.
- They are generally very affordable, with steel bracelets starting-off at around $10 U.S.
- “Laser” charms are also very commonplace in the Italian charm market. These are charms which are etched by hand (in practically any custom design) using a handheld inscribing laser. They’re also known as “Laser Links”.
- With all this talk about bracelets, you should be well-aware that there are also watches, necklaces, and beads that are custom-designed to hold charms. European beads are also a big hit.
Amethyst ring make a huge fashion statement and make wonderful gifts. They look absolutely spectacular in white gold and gold bands, and they are one of the most beautiful gems. They come, mainly, from Brazil, Zambia, Uruguay and Russia; furthermore, amethyst is a type of quartz that is violet in color—that’s quite understated yet stunningly elegant.
Additionally, Amethyst is the traditional February birthstone. Diamonds that are colored Amethyst, or Amethyst gems with diamond clusters, are exemplary pieces of jewelry and make for first-class rings.
