Japanese Rice Cookers | Prices and Styles

Any time you have the need for cooking rice, you will notice that it is much more convenient if you can make a batch and have it be available for your dining needs.  In other words, if you had one of those Japanese rice cookers, you would be saving yourself a bunch of time, not to mention getting better rice as a result.  This is really the main key to the rice cooker – a better quality product.  There are various features and benefits of specific units and we’ll discuss some of those here.  In addition, we’ll go over some of the prices for these different rice cookers.

Let’s start this discussion with a brief Zojirushi NS-ZCC10 review, one of the ‘Cadillacs’ in the rice cooker market.  This one has many features that, quite frankly, you might never need.  If you are just looking for an entry-level type of cooker for your rice, then you might want to find something less complicated.  While it can certainly tackle the simplest of rice cooking needs, this one priced at $100 USD may not be the best place to start for the novice.  Features like its removable inner lid, spherical bowl and easy measuring device make this one easy to tell why Zo Jirushi models are the best selling in Japan.

Now, let’s talk a minute about a more American style of rice cooker.  This one, the Aroma ARC-838TC, is a simple and completely reasonable rice cooker.  It does a great job of making some flawless rice and is simple to use.  If you are just looking for an entry level type of rice cooker, look no further than this one.  Plus, being priced at under $35 USD makes this one a simple choice.  It can cook up to 8 cups of rice.  This is a decent amount for such a moderately priced unit.
