Karaoke Singing Tips 101

Not everyone can be a full-time professional performer but thanks to the popular activity of karaoke you can have your shot at singing in public. Of course that is not universal good news since not everybody wants to harmonize in front of people and similarly, not everyone wants to listen to non-professionals sing. But overall, karaoke should be warmly taken as a light-hearted group experience that can be enjoyed in the company of friends and family while amongst total strangers. If you finally get up enough courage to climb up on stage and perform, then you might like to know some of these very basic tips to make sure you maximize your karaoke experience.

The first thing you should do is be conscious of how others feel about karaoke but don’t get caught up in the competitive nature of the beloved pastime. As a first-time singer, just think clearly about getting through the song and don’t get caught up on what other singers are doing or how well they do themselves. So that’s a pretty simple goal overall – all you have to do is get through your song without passing out or quitting completely. There are a few things that trip-up first-timers when they first get up on the stage and one of the first factors is the brightness of the lights. There might not be anything that you can do physically to get you ready for the bright glare of the spotlight short of staring at the sun, but just be prepared for the possible situation of not being able to see the people in the crowd. From a purely sound perspective, make sure to keep the microphone close to your mouth, but not right next to it as this should create proper sound balance without overloading the entire system. Most singing machines will be able to deal with differing raising or lowering noise levels but nothing can be done if you hold the mic too far away or your voice is too low. Overall, don’t be scared of the stage, stay calm if possible and be intent on having fun, and use the tools you are given and you will be able to enjoy karaoke as a first timer.
