There's an interesting trend developing for the Christian community: an explosion of Christian-based companies, offering services for both the Christian and Non-Christian community.
This can be seen in a number of different ways. For instance, in Cary, North Carolina, a local church has bought a coffee shop and uses this as a place to conduct informal church services, distribute literature and information as well as Bibles, DVD's, books, and CD's. And of course at the same time, this is all possible because the business sells coffee, treats, and other goods and treats that allow it stay afloat.
In this example, the service is a "brick and mortar" storefront, whereas in other cases, Christian based services are not as literal. For instance, what services are needed to run the church? One area would be in the cleaning and maintenance of the church itself. There are business opportunities here for entreprenuers to start a Christian minded cleaning business that markets itself exclusively to churches.
Another example is related to financial services. It's hard enough to trust the banks these days, not to mention the big financial companies who nearly caused the collapse of the economy by gambling with the collective savings and investments of the people of this country. This is where Christian financial management companies have stepped up to the plate, giving people an "in" to financial services where they feel comfortable, where they are more likely to trust and feel confidence in the services being offered. According to Jim at the Christian Debt Counseling Guide, this extends from simple financial planning and budgeting services to Christian debt consolidation and Christian debt counseling services as well.
The benefits are two fold in running and using Christian based services. As a consumer, you are helping keep dollars in a community you're a part of, and you usually can expect a higher level of integrity and personally-oriented services being offered. As a business, you get to serve a community that you are a part of, and help recycle the cash flow from this community to your business, which then grows and can help more people.
There's no cut and dry formula for starting a Christian based service. Like any business, it takes creativity, patience, bravery, and persistence. The only way to get started is to do just that: take an idea and run with it, and see what happens!
