Key Ingredients for Fighting Aging Skin Concerns

As we get older, so does our skin. In order to minimize the effects of aging that are visible to the naked eye, it is a good idea to avoid the factors which lead to faster aging. So, if you are looking for a product to help minimize the effects of age on your skin, first do yourself a favor and avoid that which causes faster aging in the first place.

  1. Environmental toxins such as smoke and alcohol can cause your skin to age faster. Both of these toxins cause the skin to become dehydrated which leads to early signs of aging.
  2. Stress is another cause of premature aging. Stress causes wear and tear on the body which can lead to a variety of health issues including less healthy skin.
  3. Poor nutrition is another cause of aging skin. By eating healthy, you can ensure that your body is in tip top shape and is prepared for any stressors or toxins that may lead to early signs of aging.

When looking for a product that will lessen the effects of aging, here are some key ingredients to look for. As a general rule of thumb, the more of these types of ingredients in a given product, the better the product will be.

  1. Vitamin C:  The anti oxidant properties of Vitamin C benefit the skin by eliminating the free radicals that eventually cause skin cells to age faster. When using a product that includes Vitamin C as an ingredient, make sure it comes in a dark bottle that has a nice tight seal. Vitamin C can oxidize when it has contact with the air which would negate the benefits of this ingredient.
  2. Vitamin E: another great ingredient that has similar properties to Vitamin C since it also helps to remove free radicals.
  3. Copper peptides: This ingredient helps the skin heal and repair damage to the skin. Copper peptides are beneficial to use in addition to anything that mildly damages the skin (such as an acid peel) as it will help repair any damage done during the process.
  4. Retinol: also know as Vitamin A, Retinol is good for keeping skin youthful. It is usually used to treat acne but its effects can be seen for those simply trying to fight visible signs of aging. In general, it is not a good idea to use Retinol in an eye wrinkle cream because it can be irritating for this sensitive area.
  5. Phytochemicals: These are compounds that can be extracted from certain plants, there isn't a lot of scientific evidence about how these work but it is thought that these chemicals help the skin stay healthy as they are good antioxidants.

Summary:

When looking for an aging skin product or wrinkle cream, check the labels for the types of ingredients listed above. Aside from using products to fight aging, eating a healthy diet is important along with avoiding environmental toxins and excessive stress.
