Looking For Those Wood Wall Clocks Again

There has always been a fascination with the past, in terms of hand-made wares.  There is just something about having a piece of art or machinery that you know was created by some skilled craftsman many years ago.  It seems before any other reason, this is what makes an antique so valuable.  The fact that no one else probably has one can make something extremely valuable.  It makes you wonder what we will ever have that is an antique again at some point, as more and more of our goods are production line produced.  In any event, wall clocks used to be made by hand in the shops of only the most skilled craftsman.  Their prized possessions are still available today, probably because there was a time when things were built to last.

Not to sound too grumpy or anything, but things today are just made to a much lower standard.  Sure, there are products that meet or exceed any quality standards of years gone by.  But, haven’t you noticed how quickly it seems things have to be replaced around your home?  Because of reasons like this and an economy that is returning to a time when thriftiness matters, things that could be considered antiques are making a comeback.  In home decorating and design, elements of the ‘old world’ are reappearing.  One such example of this is wood wall clocks.  Much like the early telephones, these clocks were often made of a wooden box with a glass face and key wound clock mechanism.  The face of these now antique wall clocks were hand painted and the parts all worked flawlessly.

These clocks were designed to last.  Not only did they tell time, but they could probably tell a story or two.  These wall clocks hung in the homes and dens of some of the most important people in our nation’s history.  In fact, many great clock makers originated in Europe and so there have been many heads of state that relied on these wood wall clocks to not only keep time, but make history.  Create some history in your own home and look into these
