Outdoor Accent Lighting

As a homeowner your first concern for installing outdoor lighting should be for the safety of your family and friends and the security of your property. Once you have outdoor safety and security lighting properly taken care of you can have a little fun with some of the different types of accent lighting available for outdoor use. There are quite a few different types of outdoor accent lighting and depending on what you want to do you should find one that will work for your specific needs. Let's look at some of the different accent lighting options.

Patio umbrella lights are nice accent lights. You can purchase patio umbrellas with lights already attached or a light kit to add lighting to an umbrella you already own. Most patio umbrella lights are solar powered or battery powered.

Rope lights are another great outdoor accent. These are basically a string of lights just like you would use on a Christmas tree enclosed in a flexible plastic casing. These can be twined around trees, trellises, porch railings as well as lots of other places in your yard.

Glass lanterns can add a very soft and romantic look to your outdoor areas. These are available either as solar powered or to be used with candles. You can hang them overhead or from shepherds hooks, or simply sit them on your patio table. They look pretty wherever you choose to use them.

Patio string lights can be found as either a plain string of lights with either white or colored bulbs and as a string of lights with the bulbs having decorative covers over them. The plain ones can be used in much the same way as rope lights, the patio light strings with decorative covers look pretty strung between trees or hung from the ceiling of a porch, patio or deck.

Outdoor table and floor lamps, while offering additional lighting are also great accents for your patio or deck. These are all made to withstand the weather and come in some really great styles.

As you can see, there are lots of options for adding some accent lighting to your outdoor areas. Have fun with it and you can create your own private getaway right outside your door.
