Outdoor Shades and Awnings for Your Patio

When you set out to find some new ways to shade your patio space, you will quickly notice that many terms are often being used to describe the same thing.  For example, you found this article searching for outdoor shades or maybe patio shades, but there are other styles of outdoor shading that go by a variety of names.  We will not be covering them all here, but there are some specific ones that deserve mentioning.

One of particular note is the patio awning.  These come in basically two types:  a fixed mounted system and a retractable awning.  The fixed system are the ones you often see that are more like window coverings.  These old popular and classic looking favorites often have a striped pattern on the fabric and utilize those spear type mounting bars.  If you have any interest in this look, then the awning is the way to go.  The retractable awning serves a similar function, but it simply has the ability to retract when there is no desire for shade or for protection in poor weather conditions.

However, one of the most popular up-and-coming stars of these patio shades is the shade sail.  Shade sails are those types of canopies that you might be familiar with if you live in Australia.  These are also showing up in many commercial settings here in the U.S.  They provide a great amount of shade and can be mounted to be fixed in place.  They are pulled taught between 3 points of attachment, typically.  The fabric is usually a heavy nylon or canvas material that is built to withstand the harsh elements of the outdoors.  If you’re looking for a great outdoor shade that is also a modern look, then the shade sails are a good choice for you.  You really can’t go wrong with any of these outdoor shades.
