First, the pizza stone. Pizza stones are pretty much essential if you want to produce anything like a wood fired oven pizza without a wood fired oven! Pizza stones work by absorbing lots of heat while they preheat in the oven. Once they are charged up, you use your peel to slide the topped pizza directly on to the stone. This cooks the pizza as quickly as possible without costing your oven a lot of heat, and also makes the base nice and crispy as the stone absorbs some of the moisture.

This of course brings us to the pizza peel. A wooden pizza peel is one of the most useful implements you can use - the first time you use it, you will wonder how you ever did without it! A pizza peel lets you assemble one or more pizzas in advance, and then quickly slip them into the oven without having to shuffle them around or pick them up. There are a few tips to get the most out of your peel though. First, make sure that you rub some flour into the surface before you drop your pizza base on it. This wil make a big difference with stopping it from sticking. As you work on your pizza, give the occasional little jiggle to make sure it isn't sticking.

Finally, you will want a decent pizza cutter and serving board. Everyone has seen the traditional pizza cutter wheels, but a more interesting design is like a large curved knife, big enough to cut the whole pizza at once. This is pressed down and rotated along the blade. The benefit is that there is no wheel to push through the pizza and disturb your carefully placed toppings.
