Remove Bathroom Mold in Your Home

You can easily remove bathroom mold with a little bit of scrubbing. If you’re willing to do the work, you can have the problem solved in one day. The only exception is if the bathroom mold in your home is deep in the grout or caulk around your shower or bathtub. That might make your job slightly more difficult.

The good news is there are several ways to deal with this problem. This article provides information on one of the many ways to remove this nuisance from your bathroom.

You will need distilled vinegar, spray bottle, baking soda, scrub brush, and rubber gloves. A disposable mask to cover your face is an option as well. A mask protects you from inhaling mold spores and fumes when using strong cleansers. Proceed to the next step after getting the necessary supplies.

Reclaiming your bathroom

First, create a paste of soap, hot water and baking soda. Scrub the spots with this paste to remove some of the mold. When you rinse the paste away, some or all of the mold should wash away. Dry the area and check the results. If spots remain, move on to the next step.

Second, make a mixture containing one parts vinegar and two parts water. Put the mixture into a spray bottle and shake it well. Saturate the remaining stains with the mixture. Let the mixture sit on the stains for five to ten minutes to soak in.

If the mixture has dried after the allotted time, spray the area again. This time, scrub the area with the brush while the area is still wet. Finish scrubbing the area and rinse it again with hot water. This final rinse should remove the mold. If the mold remains, proceed to the next mold removal step. If the paste and vinegar fail to work, you have a stubborn problem. One option is to repeat the cleaning process. Perhaps the spots just need one extra cleaning before they’re erased for good.

Another option is to replace the item that you’re cleaning. For instance, if the mold is too deep in the grout or caulk around your tub, you need to remove and replace the damaged material. The best thing about this is you can apply a mold-resistant coating to prevent mold from affecting the new material.

Sometimes mold grows on bathroom ceilings as well. This usually happens in bathrooms that have a shower and a bathtub. If the shower is a part of the bathtub, then it’s not enclosed in a stall. This means that water can splash on the ceiling when you’re taking a shower.

If you need to clean the ceiling, follow the cleaning steps above, but use a long-handled brush to reach the ceiling. Do not stand directly under the spot you’re cleaning because liquid will drip in your face.
