Save Energy, Save Money and Save Resources

Out of some very difficult financial times, we can always see some positive things come out of it.  With people concerned about saving money, one of the first areas is to being conserving home energy and water resources.  Some simple steps can lead to lower energy and water bills.  As people begin to reduce their usage, they may begin to see the additional benefits of becoming more eco friendly.

Some great energy saving tips for your home can be very easy and not cost a lot of money to do.  You can do simple things to save your heating bill.  Keep your thermostat set at 68 degrees.  You should always keep your filter clean for your furnace to run more efficiently.  Make sure windows are well sealed and do not forget about those vents in the basement.  This will reduce the amount of heat escaping during the winter.  Use a programmable thermostat that can keep your settings low when not at home.

A few water saving tips will reduce the amount of water usage and save you money.  Check your faucets for drips.  These drips can accumulate to a lot of money if left unchecked.  Make sure your toilet is not constantly running.  You can change the insides to stop any issues.  Try not to leave the water running while hand washing dishes or even while you brush your teeth.  You can store drinking water in the refrigerator to reduce using your sink tap.  Try to insulate your water pipes as this will take a shorter time for the water to get hot.  Try to start a compost pile instead of using your sink disposal.  This is great for the garden or other landscaping needs.  Saving water will reduce your water bill as well as reduce the demand on the ever reducing water supply.

There are some simple electricity saving tips that you will see benefits from.  Make sure your appliances have the Energy Star symbol.  Outdated appliances will cost you a lot of money.  Keep your refrigerator coils clean for it to work efficient.  Most certainly, turn off lights and equipment when not in use.  Change your light bulbs to energy efficient ones.  In the summer, try to cook outdoors to keep the heat out of the kitchen.  You should make sure your laundry loads are full and do laundry in the evening.
