If you are looking for a change in attitude and perspective, you may want to consider solar string lights. Why is that? On one hand, they can provide a dash of color for house or party decorations, either at the holidays or at any other time of year. On the other hand, they also provide an opportunity to reflect on the sources of energy that we use, and the opportunity to both save money and do something that is beneficial for the environment.
If you put up regular Christmas lights, they can bring light and color to an otherwise boring dark night. But is it necessary to plug that cord in and pay 10 cents per kilowatt-hour? Perhaps you care about the money that you are spending. Perhaps you care about the fact that electricity uses fossil fuels and will emit carbon dioxide into the atmosphere; electricity production in the U.S. emits approximately 1.34 pounds of carbon dioxide per kilowatt-hour. At Christmas time, there are quite a lot of strings of lights put up to bring holiday joy, and it does accumulate.
Solar string lights are gentle and efficient. They use efficient LED lights and rechargeable batteries that are charged by small solar panels. Even if you have never put up lights in your life, perhaps your perspective will be changed by these solar powered lights, and why not? You would never have to plug them in, they are charged in six hours by the sun, and they turn on automatically at dusk. No more extension cords, or worry about kids electrocuting themselves, which is a serious concern.
It is possible that solar lights could change your perspective how easy it is to shift the sources that we are utilizing for our energy needs. It could even be that the invention of solar string lights could change your whole attitude about wanting to brightening the moods of your neighbors. Maybe they will even encourage more people to go out for walks at night, and get some needed exercise and socializing!
