Should Reborn Baby Dolls Be Banned?
When you think of owning a doll, you are most likely going to picture a child and her favorite toy. After all every young girl has owned one at some stage. Over recent years, the typical doll has evolved far beyond the typical toy that we can all imagine. These days some doll artists are designing dolls that look totally realistic. These dolls are called reborn baby dolls.
The hobby of “reborning” was first discovered in 1990 when doll artists wanted to push for true realism in doll design. The typical place to find reborn babies for sale is online marketplaces such as EBay and Amazon. There are also offline fairs where many hobbyists meet up to buy the many custom dolls available.
In order to reach this level of realism, the process involved in creating one is a long and patient one. The result however can be breathtaking.
The dolls are made out of vinyl, which are coated with multiple layers of genesis paint in order to bring the skin to life. Other features like real hair is also added within the process. The hobbyist can also buy kits that do a lot of the construction for you, and just leave you to apply the artistic finishes.
The burning question that is being asked lately is “should reborn baby dolls be banned?”
Because of the intense level of realism involved with these dolls, controversy is never going to be too far away. Yes for many this is a hobby and for these people, they do it because they enjoy the creative aspects of it. Some other people are collectors as reborn babies are fast becoming very collectible, which makes some of these brands of dolls very expensive to buy.
While I am not suggesting that you run up your personal credit card bill buying dolls hoping that you can turn a quick profit, you could keep them for a while and enjoy them and quite possibly see them go up in value.
Often when people get a reborn doll it is to fill the void in their lives left by the loss of a child, or a child that has grown up. Some people will think they should be banned because they are unethical or creepy, while others believe that they will help with the very difficult grieving process created by the loss of a child.
Public opinion is split on the subject of reborn baby dolls, and that split opinion is unlikely to change soon.
