The Dos and Don’ts of Getting Rid of Cellulite

Cellulite is a condition which has a lot myths surrounding it. Unfortunately, these myths can send you down the wrong treatment path and lead to disappointing results. Below you will find the most common myths surround the condition and the dos and don’ts about getting rid of it.

1.    Cellulite means you are overweight

Cellulite isn’t caused by fat but thin bands of tissue that nets the fat cells together. When cellulite appears, these bands get tough and pull the fat together, causing them to bulge. Since the cause are these bands, excess fat has very little do with whether you get cellulite or not.

What this means for cellulite removal is that you want a therapy which targets the tough bands and not the fat. Cellulite laser removal is one treatment which focuses on loosening up the tissue that causes the condition.

2.    You should do cardio exercise to get rid of cellulite

The idea that cardio exercise is will remove cellulite is linked to the idea that it is caused by fat. The reality is that cardio can actually make the condition worse. How? Muscle actually gives your legs and hips shape and smoothness. Excessive cardio can reduce the amount muscle you have and make the cellulite more visible.

If you want to do exercise to reduce the condition you will need to focus on exercises that increase lean muscle. By all means include cardio to tone up but don’t rely on it to significantly reduce the lumps and bumps.

3.    Drinking water will help cellulite

The amount of water in your system has very little to do with reducing the appearance of cellulite. For you skin to be thin enough to make the condition worse you need to be severely dehydrated. For most women, drinking the recommended 8 glasses of water per day is sufficient for internal health and wellbeing.
