The Power Of Team Building Activities

If you have never used small group games or team building activities, maybe you are not aware of how powerful they are. Group games and activities create a relaxed and informal atmosphere and this stimulates learning. In many aspects, games are the perfect learning tool for any age.

Games rely on the subconscious and this is why you learn without efforts. If you choose the right group games and exercises, your team will love the team building activity. If your team is diverse, it might be tricky to choose the right games but with some effort ( and advice from experts) you can come up with a set of games everybody can take part in.

The criteria which games are right or wrong are very subjective but some common factors you should always consider are the age of your team and the intellectual capacity of the team's members. For instance, if your team is young, you could consider games, which require physical activity. Also, if creativity is important for the team, you can pick games that develop creativity and serve them to your team.

Remember, the choice of games always depends on what your team is and what the goals of the team building activity are. This is why you can't go with any games somebody recommends you because if the games are not fit for your team and for the particular tasks you are after, the whole experiment can cause negative effects.

Small group games could constitute a team building activity on their own or be part of a larger task. Sometimes your team members might get tired, if you use only games for team building, so you need to be prepared to include alternative activities as well. It is true that even games can get boring, so don't forget this!

Some good tips on choosing the right game for your team here. I particularly think it’s important to find games that fit your team and that everyone can participate in. My tip would be to think not only about age and physical capability, but also to think whether your team members are more likely to enjoy ‘hands on’ or more intellectual type games.
