What Different Types of Mobile Contracts Are There?

Of course pretty much everyone has a mobile phone from a very early age these days. However, while that may be the case lets actually have a closer look to find out what the different types are and how we determine what the correct contract is for you.

In general there are two routes one can go with a contract. A sim only contract or a pay monthly contract. Both of these type of contracts are offered by the major mobile phone networks such as T-Mobile, Orange, O2, Vodafone and 3.

As the name suggests, a sim only contract is where you only get a sim card – no phone. Why would someone take out a sim only contract? There are many reasons but perhaps it is because they already have a mobile phone that they are happy with or they want a phone that is not provided by that particular mobile phone provider yet the contracts rates are cheap enough.

A prime example of this was when the I Phone was released in the UK. It was only released on O2 contracts, yet many T-Mobile phone customers wanted to stay with T-Mobile. So they simply got a sim only contract and purchased the I Phone separately on Ebay or Amazon etc.

The second type of contract is a pay monthly contract where you do get a phone. This means you are given an expensive phone and in return you stay with the Mobile Phone provider for at least 12, 18 or 24 Months. Why is this desirable?

Well if you are after an expensive phone but don’t have the several hundred pounds it would take to purchase it, then this is the perfect way of doing it. You pay something like £30 a month for the contract length and once it is up, the phone belongs to you. On top of that you obviously get the minutes and text allowance each month as well.
