What To Know About Making Money Online

There’ve been a lot of scams recently from companies claiming to teach you how to make money online.  There’s been hype about making money from Google – which is possible, provided you actually go through Google, and not a sham company that claims to be Google.  There are programs that Google offers that can help your site make money, but you should still exercise caution in farming out your site – or money – in an effort to create revenue.

First, do your research.  If you’re looking at an ad for something that Google doesn’t normally do, maybe “Google” isn’t really the company you’re looking at.  Double-check to make sure Google actually does offer the program you’re considering.

It should be common sense, but for some reason, it’s not: don’t pay somebody fifty dollars to “register” your site or send you the “secret” to making money online.  Google makes a living from answering people’s questions or directing them to someone who can – why would they charge you for some “secret” to making money online, developed hundreds of years ago by a Tibetan monk?  If you want to make money with Google, Google will charge you for a program or service, but not for information about that service.

Anything that promises ridiculous results probably isn’t legitimate, let’s be honest.  Google can help you gain visibility for your website.  They can advertise your website.  They can pay you to advertise someone else’s website.  But they’re not going to pay you just to exist, no matter how good your site is.  Use some good judgment; if Google isn’t going to make any money out of it, they’re probably not going to be paying you for it.  They’re willing to advertise on your site because they’re being paid to spread ads as far as possible – but they’re not paid just to get you extra viewers, and they’re not paid to give your site a gold star.  If it doesn’t require anything from you except your credit card number, the program’s probably a scam.
