Why You Should Build a Screened-In Porch

Porches were originally roofed and one-sided structures that served to entrances to buildings.  Since the old days, the meaning of porch has broadened to any extension of a living area.  One new term that has become commonplace today is screened-in porch.  There are many reasons why a screened-in porch is a good investment to build onto your home.

A screened-in porch will allow you to enjoy the outdoors without having to be annoyed by bugs in the air.  This can be a major annoyance in the summer, especially when the set is setting.  Many people are relaxing on their porches at this time after getting home from work.  Having bugs in your face is not worth sitting outside for.  The porch would also be a great place to be when there is a rain shower outside or a cool summer breeze.

A screened-in porch is also a great place to entertain your family and friends.  You can put nice furniture on the porch without having to worry about it getting damaged from bad weather.  My family likes to eat dinner on the porch in the summer, because the weather is a lot nicer.  You can also spend your time reading or simply relaxing in a comfortable environment.  The sun will not be beating down on you because you will be under a roof.  If you still want sunlight to enter the porch, a great idea is to install skylights on your porch.

You will also add considerable value to your home by installing a screened-in porch.  You could build one on your own if you think you are handy enough or contact a contractor to help design a plan for you and find people to build it themselves.

If you think that a screened-in porch is too big of an investment at the moment, you could always consider installing a porch awning for the time being.  Awnings can help protect you in bad weather and improve your overall experience outside.  You will also not have to worry about your furniture getting damaged if it is under an awning.
