Wulong, Green or Black Tea?

There are many different types of tea. Chinese teas, such as wulong tea and green tea are now very common. Black tea has been around for hundreds of years and a favorite of many.  Herbal teas soothe and heal, calm and energize. You can even find medicinal teas, though these are usually made from some form of herb, fruit or vegetable.

While Asians have been drinking tea for centuries, it is actually only a fairly new arrival on the Western scene. Black tea was the most readily accepted by those in the West and it has been the main tea served now for a few hundred years. However, with our changing world and the integrations of East with West, more people worldwide are becoming interested in drinking both the green and wulong teas. Benefits of these teas have been touted far and wide in the media and while perhaps not all claims are true, it is proven and substantiated by quite a few studies that both teas do have beneficial properties.

Whenever tea is served, whether black or Chinese teas, it usually revolves around some kind of social gathering. Westerners usually have a much more casual approach toward their cuppa’ tea, whereas both Chinese and Japanese cultures have elaborate tea drinking ceremonies.  There is some merit to the great lengths people go to when pouring and serving wulong and green tea. These particular teas taste best when prepared with the right temperature water and when poured after being brewed for a specific amount of time. It actually is quite an art learning how to prepare and pour these teas properly.

Tea culture refers to these ceremonies as well as to the actual tea tasting experience. Tea has been elevated to a spiritual plain where properly prepared and served tea is said to be able to calm minds, restore spirits, bring clarity of thoughts and help in meditation. Of course, you can enjoy the benefits of this tea without necessarily following all the details on how to prepare it, but it does actually taste better when prepared properly!
